Waking up on the day before my birthday is always a joyous experience, I almost enjoy it more than my actual birthday. Why? It’s the time of the year I get to begin my cleansing and purification ritual. I can pause and reflect on a year gone by and set my intentions and manifestations for the new year. By doing this, I can bring positivity and clarity to dawning new year and leave the previous year behind without any spiritual debts or grievances.
In essence just as you are coming into a new age, a new chapter, you are also becoming a new person and learning from your past to prevent it from happening again. I prefer to do it within the last hour on the last day of my previous year so when I rise out of the water I am born a new, or you can do it right before bed so you can awake with the new energy. The big thing is making sure that it’s the end of your day and after your bath, you’re not going to do anything else. This is so any lingering energy in the home or activities does not go into the new year.
To begin this ritual, I make sure that my entire house is clean so no energy is hiding anywhere. Once my house is clean I open the windows and light a candle. The candle will cleanse the air in the home. I usually do this a day prior to the last day of my year.
Now I’m ready to write out what I hope to accomplish this year. This is usually something I’m excited about, or just want to focus on for my birth year. Once my list is complete I rewrite it two more times. This allows me to place the list throughout my home and it also solidifies it in my head.

After that is done, I gather the necessary ingredients for the ritual. For me, this means crystals, herbs, candles, and oils. For herbs, I use those that clarify, protect, and awaken any energy I might need. This year I wanted to focus on trusting my intuition, connecting to my higher self and purpose, and living a more decadent life with a strong focus on cultural experiences. For this, I chose lavender. Not only will it aid in purification, but it is also connected to the crown chakra, an energy center that’s associated with higher purpose and spiritual connectivity. The color purple is also associated with royalty and luxury so it met all my needs, I used the dried lavender petals and essential oils.
As far as crystals go this is up to your discretion. I used Clear quartz, Rose quartz, Citrine, Black Tourmaline, Amethyst, and Desert Rose. These crystals help me connect to my higher self and higher beans, have a strong focus on love both for the universe and myself, help protect me, and, give me confidence and protection. All things I want to bring into my new year.
I also used a Selenite crystal to cleanse and remove last year’s energy. The Rose of Jericho, or the resurrection plant represents rebirth prosperity, and abundance. Palo Santo sticks to remove negative energy.
With everything in place, I began my ritual.
I lit the candles and the Palo sticks and took a few moments to clear my mind and connect with the energy I was looking to bring in. Once I found it I welcomed in the energy I desired with a smile raising my hands high above my head and touching my palms together slowly lowering them to my heart center. I thank the universe for the lessons learned over the past year and for bringing me to a new beginning. Welcoming the year I state my intentions for the new year and what I’m looking forward to accomplishing. I then use the Selenite wand to wipe away the energy of the past year starting at the top of my head down to my feet and repeat it with the Palo Stick focusing on my mind before going over the rest of my body.
After I finish this I turn on the shower and allow the water to wash over me reciting that the water is removing any remaining traces of the previous year. I then wash myself clean with soap and water. With everything clean, I take the Rose of Jericho and wet it in the shower. As the water drips through the petals I run the rose over my shoulder and face blessing me into the new year. I place the rose on the edge of the bath as I stop up the tub so it can begin to fill up. I then re-add my herbs this time with lavender and oil and allow them to run over my body as I welcome in the new energy and let it go deep into my skin running over my body as I meditate on my goals while the Rose of Jericho slowly blooms. I wait until the Rose is about half-bloomed then step outside of the tub. I have now been reborn! I go to sleep to the sound of soft rain allowing the universe to work things out in my favor and start the day fresh and ready the next day.
