Have you ever felt overwhelmed with so many conflicting thoughts and emotions that your mind feels full? I know I constantly have a million tabs open in my mind, accompanied by endless to-do lists that I’m trying to check off. There are days when I just want to turn my brain off, dump everything out, and focus on what really matters.
That’s when I turn to my journal.
I open to a fresh page and pour everything onto it, furiously writing while my incense burns quietly in the background. Before I know it, the incense stick has burned down, my mind feels at peace, and I can go about my day with a clearer mind and lighter heart.
Beginning a mind dump session is simple, and I covered the process in another post that you can read here. I like to do my mind dumps in the morning, when everything feels scattered. I reach for my morning journal, which you can find in my marketplace. I keep it on my vanity, and once I open it, I ask myself one or more of the following questions:
What is your mind trying to tell you today?
What have you been carrying that no longer belongs to you?
What feels heavy, and what feels light?
What is asking for your attention right now?
What are you ready to release onto the page?
What do you hope to make room for next?
There are no rules for a mind dump. Don’t worry about grammar, spelling, or making perfect sense. No one else is going to read these pages. This is simply a space to let your thoughts exist outside of your mind for a little while. Sometimes you’ll fill a page, and other times you’ll write just a few sentences. Both are enough.
Once I’ve poured everything out, I sit back, relax, and enjoy the feeling of a clear mind that’s ready for the day ahead.
