Call Your Energy Back To You: How To Recover From Burnout

This past month—honestly, maybe even longer—I’ve been burnt out. My brain’s been foggy, I’ve had trouble sleeping, and all I’ve wanted are the “bad things”: chips, pizza, and naps, even after coffee. I knew something was off.

Now, I don’t usually use this space to talk about real-world problems. I like to keep this blog a little oasis—but I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t share why we need that oasis: because the world feels like it’s burning right now.

It’s hard. It’s stressful. The uncertainty can weigh heavy. And it’s so easy to burn out when you’re carrying the weight of it all.

This past month, I felt the entire world—and it completely threw off my sacred energy. I could barely eat, couldn’t think straight, and I made simple mistakes. I found myself rushing just to prove I could do it, instead of taking the time to do it right. That’s when I knew I needed a break—a real break—because I was burning out fast.

Taking time to recharge and find your rhythm again is paramount to living a prosperous, creative, and low-stress life. Here’s how I’ve been resetting—and how you can too:

Step Away.

Take a step back from whatever you can, when you can. That book you’ve been meaning to read? It can wait. That laundry pile? It’ll still be there. Give yourself permission to have a do-nothing weekend. Let the day unfold naturally without productivity expectations. Sit in stillness. Breathe.

Unplug.

Even if it’s just for an hour, give yourself a break from your phone. The constant news cycle, notifications, and scrolling can overload your nervous system. Instead, reconnect with the world around you. Take a mindful walk, stretch, do a face mask, or simply sit in the sun. Let quiet become your sanctuary.

Do Something Creative.

Whether it’s journaling, doodling, painting, dancing, or rearranging a corner of your space—create. It’s not about making art; it’s about letting something move through you. Creativity is a release valve for emotions we don’t always have the words for.

Sleep.

Burnout and rest deprivation go hand in hand. Sleep isn’t lazy—it’s a vital part of healing and resetting your mind, hormones, and nervous system. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try winding down an hour before bed: dim the lights, skip the screens, and opt for something gentle like herbal tea or soft music. Don’t be afraid to nap during the day if your body needs it. This is your recovery time—honor it.

Eat Simply.

Burnout can dull your appetite or make you crave quick fixes, but your body is quietly begging for nourishment. You don’t have to cook elaborate meals—focus on simple, whole foods. Warm soups, roasted veggies, oatmeal, smoothies, rice bowls. Think gentle, grounding, and easy to digest. Your nervous system responds to calm nourishment just like your mind does.

Connect Softly.

Reach out to people who feel safe—whether to talk or just be in each other’s presence. You don’t have to explain everything. Just knowing someone sees you and holds space for you can be healing in itself. If you’re not up for talking, try writing a letter to someone you love or even to yourself.

Tend to Your Space.

If and when you have the energy, freshen up your space. Open a window. Light a candle. Tuck away clutter. It doesn’t have to be a deep clean—just enough to help your environment feel a little more like a cocoon instead of a cage.

Burnout doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’ve been strong for too long without a break. So if you’ve been feeling foggy, stretched thin, or just off, you’re not alone—and you’re not broken. You’re being called to rest, realign, and return to yourself.

Let this be your reminder: you don’t have to push. You can pause.
