Luteal Phase Rituals: Nurturing Yourself Before Your Period

You know that feeling when everything just feels… off? One minute, you’re craving solitude, the next, you want to cry over a cute dog video. Your skin feels extra sensitive, your energy is dipping, and the world just seems a little louder than usual.

Welcome to your luteal phase—the week or two before your period when your body is calling you inward, asking you to slow down, soften, and take care of yourself. Instead of pushing through or ignoring what your body needs, this is your chance to lean in, nurture yourself, and create space for rest and reflection.

Here are some simple, feminine rituals to help you move through this time with grace, ease, and a whole lot of self-love.

1. Feed Your Body Like a Goddess

Your body is working hard behind the scenes, and it’s asking for warmth, nourishment, and grounding. This isn’t the time for restrictive eating or skipping meals—your body needs fuel.

Try adding in:

Magnesium-rich foods like dark chocolate, spinach, and pumpkin seeds to soothe your mood and relax your muscles.

Healthy fats from avocados, nuts, and olive oil to keep your hormones happy.

Slow-burning carbs like roasted sweet potatoes, lentils, and quinoa to keep your energy steady.

Iron-rich foods like leafy greens, beans, or high-quality red meat to replenish what your body will soon release.

One of my favorite luteal-phase meals? A big, cozy bowl of roasted sweet potatoes with tahini drizzle, garlicky sautéed greens, and a sprinkle of hemp seeds. It’s warming, delicious, and full of everything your body is asking for.

2. Move Like Water, Not Fire

This isn’t the time to push yourself through high-intensity workouts (unless you feel up for it). Instead, think slow, fluid, and intuitive movement.

Yin yoga to release tension and connect with your breath.

Gentle stretching to open up your hips and lower back.

A slow walk in nature to clear your mind and soothe your nervous system.

Let go of any pressure to “perform” and just move in ways that feel soft and nourishing.

3. Create a Tea Ritual

There’s something about curling up with a warm cup of tea that just feels like a hug from the inside out. Herbs can be powerful allies during this phase, helping you feel more balanced and grounded.

Brew yourself a cup of:

Raspberry leaf tea to support your uterus and ease cramps.

Chamomile & lemon balm to melt away stress and anxiety.

Dandelion root to help with bloating and liver support.

Take a moment to breathe in the steam, hold your cup with both hands, and just be. Let this be a simple moment of peace in your day.

4. Let Your Creativity Flow

Your luteal phase is a time of heightened intuition and deep emotions—don’t hold them in. Let them flow through creative expression:

Journaling your thoughts, frustrations, or gratitude.

Painting or collaging—no rules, just play.

Writing poetry or stories that capture your emotions.

Let this be a time of release, not perfection. There’s magic in creating just for the sake of it.

5. Pamper Yourself With Softness

Your skin and body might feel extra sensitive right now—this is the perfect excuse to lean into self-care that feels nurturing and indulgent.

A warm oil massage (abhyanga) with coconut or sesame oil to ground yourself.

A hydrating face mask with honey, yogurt, and a touch of turmeric.

A long bath with Epsom salts to relax sore muscles and melt away tension.

Think of this as a love letter to yourself. You deserve softness. You deserve care.

6. Set Boundaries & Protect Your Energy

If you feel more introverted or irritable, trust that feeling. You don’t have to push yourself to be “on” all the time.

Say no to social plans that don’t feel right.

Limit screen time and avoid overstimulation.

Prioritize rest and alone time without guilt.

Let yourself pull inward. Your energy will return when it’s ready.

7. Prepare for the New Cycle

The luteal phase is a natural time of letting go—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Honor this by:

Cleansing your space with incense or simply opening the windows.

Decluttering something small—a drawer, your inbox, your thoughts.

Setting an intention for your next cycle. What do you want to call in? What are you ready to release?

This little act of preparation can help you move into your period with more ease and less resistance.

Your Luteal Phase is Sacred

Instead of seeing this as a time of struggle, what if we treated it as a sacred pause? A time to listen, to rest, and to honor our bodies as the cyclical, magical beings we are?

Embrace the slowness. Make space for softness. Trust that your body knows exactly what it’s doing.

How do you take care of yourself before your period? Let’s share and hold space for each other. 💛

With love & moonlight,
