Full Moon Ritual: A Simple Ceremony for Letting Go

The full moon is a moment of culmination—a time when the energy we’ve been cultivating reaches its peak, illuminating what is ready to be seen, felt, and ultimately released. Across cultures and traditions, the full moon has been a symbol of wisdom, clarity, and the completion of cycles. It’s a perfect time for introspection, cleansing, and setting intentions for the new phase ahead.

If you’ve been feeling the pull to slow down, tune in, and honor this lunar moment, here’s a ritual to guide you through it.

Setting the Scene

Create a sacred space that feels peaceful and reflective. Light candles, burn incense or sage, and gather elements that connect you to this phase—crystals like moonstone or selenite, a cup of herbal tea, or a journal. If possible, sit near a window where the moonlight spills in or step outside to bask in its glow.

Step 1: Grounding Through Breath

Before diving into the ritual, take a few deep breaths. Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling the expansion in your chest, and exhale slowly through your mouth. Let this breathwork anchor you in the present moment, washing away any lingering restlessness.

Step 2: Journaling for Clarity

The full moon illuminates both our triumphs and the shadows we may have avoided. Take time to reflect by journaling on these prompts:

  • What have I learned in this past lunar cycle?
  • What emotions, habits, or thoughts am I ready to release?
  • What am I grateful for at this moment?

Allow yourself to write freely, without judgment. The answers may surprise you.

Step 3: Releasing Ceremony

On a separate piece of paper, write down what you are ready to let go of—self-doubt, past regrets, lingering fears. Hold the paper in your hands and read the words aloud, acknowledging them one last time before setting them free. You can burn the paper (safely) in a fireproof dish, tear it into tiny pieces, or bury it in the earth as a symbolic gesture of release.

Step 4: Moonlit Manifestation

Now that you’ve created space, invite new energy in. Whisper an intention for the coming weeks—one that feels aligned, nourishing, and true to you. Speak it as if it has already come to pass, letting the moon witness your commitment:
“I am stepping into this next phase with clarity and trust. I welcome joy, abundance, and love.”

Step 5: Closing with Gratitude

To end your ritual, place your hands over your heart, close your eyes, and breathe in gratitude. Thank the moon, thank yourself, and trust that all is unfolding as it should.

The full moon is not just a moment in the sky—it is an invitation to pause, reflect, and renew. May this ritual bring you peace, clarity, and a deep sense of connection to yourself and the cycles of life.
