My home is something very precious to me. It’s where I go to relax, be myself, and create. There are so few places in the world where you can truly be yourself, and your home should be one of them. When I found my current place, one of the reasons I fell in love with it was its 70s charm—such a lovely bohemian vibe to it. I felt welcomed as soon as I walked in, and the… unusual characters in the complex add a quiet charm to the area. But I still needed to make the space feel like me. When unpacking, I had a simple formula to follow: make sure the energy flows easily and positively. With that, I set out to design my sanctuary.
Feng Shui and the Power of a Command Spot
To start, I wanted my main seating to be in a “command spot.” If you’re not familiar with Feng Shui, it’s the ancient Chinese practice of arranging items in a living or workspace to create balance with the natural world. While I don’t practice every aspect of Feng Shui, I love the idea of a command spot—the place in a room where you can see every entrance, offering you a sense of security and control. With this in mind, I positioned my couch facing the front door and made sure my blankets were within easy reach—cozy and secure, the perfect combo.

Bringing Warmth with Tapestries and Family Photos
Speaking of cozy, I have a woven blanket basket under my coffee table, so they’re easy to grab when I’m curled up on the couch. To add even more warmth to my space, I hung a large tapestry of the sun surrounded by nature behind the couch. It brings an ethereal energy to the room. I also have family photos throughout my home as a constant reminder that I am loved and surrounded by love.
Bringing the Outdoors In
I’ve always had a soft spot for plants. My obsession started randomly after a BuzzFeed quiz (yes, those quizzes can be spot on sometimes!), and now I have about 14 plants (and counting!). Having indoor plants not only boosts your mood but can also be a rewarding hobby—especially when you don’t have a ton of funds but plenty of time. Tending to them is one of my favorite relaxing rituals. I like to put on some light jazz or lo-fi music, water them, or check their leaves. It feels like I’m walking through a mini forest right inside my own home.
Maintaining Positive Energy
Creating a positive energy flow is essential. After a tough day at work, I sometimes need to get rid of negative energy before it can affect my space. If that’s not possible right away, I focus on my pup and practice my grounding ritual. I start by taking a few deep, calming breaths to center my mind, then light some incense or herbs—sage and lavender are my favorites for cleansing and calm energy. I sit on my floor pillow and remind myself, “I am safe, I am calm, I am secure.”
If you’re not able to locally source sage or lavender here’s a bundle that I love using for clearing energy. Link
After my ritual, I feel more peaceful and centered. If there’s been any tension in the air, I’ll open a few windows to let the energy pass through, then light some rosemary to uplift the mood and cleanse the space. Sometimes, I’ll journal about what happened, reflecting on whether I’ve learned anything or if there’s room for growth. And sometimes, I just need to get the thoughts out of my head.
The Final Touch: A Bohemian Sanctuary
All of these steps—creating a welcoming environment, cozy spaces to feel safe and secure, surrounding myself with meaningful photos and plants, and keeping the energy positive—have helped me cultivate the bohemian sanctuary of my dreams. It’s a space that’s more than just a home; it’s a reflection of me and my journey.
With love & moonlight,
