No matter how long ago something happened, no matter if the feelings have faded, sometimes there’s still some residual matter that remains. When your mind is quiet, it often drifts to the last big story that shook you—and you can’t help but wonder… why?
That’s where I’m at right now.
I keep having the same scenario replay in my head over and over again. Whether it’s from ten years ago or just a few months, it plays like clockwork—especially in the kitchen. It’s getting to the point where I’m tired of hearing myself talk. My brain goes, “This again?” and just shuts off.
Enough is enough. It’s time to rid myself of this residual energy and clear my mind to make space for something new.
I gathered everything I needed for a simple clearing ritual:
- First, rosemary, to lift mental fog and help shift stagnant thoughts. [Shop dried rosemary]
- A bundle of hops flowers, known for their calming properties. [Find dried hops here]
- A fireproof dish to safely burn away what no longer serves me. [This handmade ceramic one is a favorite]
- A few scraps of paper to write down the thoughts I was ready to let go of.
- And long tapered candles for soft, intentional lighting. [These beeswax tapers are beautiful]
- A box of matches to light the flame and begin the transformation. [Simple wooden matches here]
To set the mood, I dimmed the lights and played soft, moody lo-fi in the background—just enough to guide my focus without distracting me. I lit the taper candles and let their glow wash over the room. With a few rounds of breathwork, I centered myself and began.
I wrote down each scenario that replays in my head during quiet moments—each fragment that lingers, uninvited. There were four in total, each scribbled on its own scrap of paper.
I gently crushed the rosemary and hops together in my palms, breathing in their earthy scent. As I did, I spoke my intention aloud:
“I release what no longer serves me. I remove these thoughts and release this energy.”
I placed the herbs into the fireproof dish, along with the slips of paper, and struck a match. The flame caught quickly, curling the edges of each memory until they turned to smoke. I watched, quietly, visualizing every lingering thought burning away.
When the fire began to fade, I closed my eyes and meditated in the flickering candlelight, allowing the release to settle in.
Once the last ember had cooled, I stepped outside and scattered the ashes to the wind.
Back inside, I brewed a cup of rosemary tea—grounding, herbal, and comforting. [Try this organic rosemary blend →]
Then I took a long, hot shower and settled into bed with a small sprig of rosemary tucked beside me—just in case any lingering thoughts tried to creep back in. [This linen sachet version is perfect for bedside use →]
The next morning, I rose feeling clear and soft. Birthed anew.
