Reading has become one of my favorite pastimes again. When I was younger, I was always immersed in a book. But as I got older, life got busier, and I often found myself choosing to relax with a show or a movie instead of picking up a book.
To find a balance, I decided to give audiobooks a try. They’re easily accessible and allow me to enjoy a good story while doing other activities, like when I might otherwise be listening to a true crime podcast or watching TV.
Here are some of the audiobooks I’m looking forward to diving into:
Happy People Are Annoying by Josh Peck: Being a ’90s kid, I watched Josh Peck grow up on TV and even witnessed his weight loss journey on Drake and Josh. Once the show ended, I kept seeing Drake but not Josh, and I couldn’t figure out why. After his reemergence on various podcasts, where he talks about his journey of sobriety and how his relationship with Drake and the entertainment industry has changed, I’m eager to hear his story. What challenges did he face, and how did he overcome them? I’m excited to find out!
Mythos by Stephen Fry: I’ve always been fascinated by Greek gods and goddesses. The few stories I’ve heard about them have been wild and crazy, and I can never get enough. Stephen Fry gives a witty performance as he retells the stories of Zeus and the Olympians without muddying the waters or making it sound too long-winded. I’ve already started listening to this book, and I’m hooked! I can’t wait to discover what happens next. If you’d like to join me, jump in!
The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli: I was reading a book about psychology, and it kept referencing Machiavelli. While I’m familiar with the term “Machiavellian,” I never really knew where it came from. Since I’m expanding my mind, a good place to start is with one of his books. The Prince covers the most well-known Machiavelli-isms, like “It’s better to be feared than loved.” I’m curious to explore his ideas and see how they apply today.
I’m excited to share my thoughts with you once I’ve finished these audiobooks! Have you read any of them, or do you have any recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
With love & moonlight,
Vintessa
