Soft Living Isn’t a Luxury—It’s a Perspective Shift
Soft living has been hijacked by marketing companies, turned into a luxury aesthetic that implies you need tons of money and time to embrace a “soft girl” life.
But I’m here to tell you: you don’t.
Living softly doesn’t require you to change who you are—just how you see and treat yourself. It’s not about expensive routines or curated perfection. Soft living is simply the other side of the coin of slow living and Romanticism. And yes, you can live softly even while working a 9-5 and building your life.
I had to learn how to move with intention and be gentler with myself, even when the world told me to hustle harder. Here are a few pillars that helped me live more softly:
1. Live Life Slowly
We live in a go-go world that treats slowness like a luxury. But slow living is really about intentional living.
It means taking your time, being mindful with your movements, and cultivating awareness.
Even carving out five minutes in the morning to do your skincare, sipping coffee outside, or walking the dog without your phone can become rituals. These aren’t just tasks—they’re experiences.
2. Invest in Yourself
This doesn’t mean booking a trip or adopting a 20-step skincare routine (unless you want to).
Soft living is about nurturing yourself—cleaning your space, designing a cozy nook, resting without guilt, or learning something new.
Resting, learning, and simply being are all powerful forms of self-investment.
3. Speak Kindly to Yourself and Others
Your words carry weight. The negativity you send outward has a quiet way of turning inward.
So be the softness you want to see in the world—especially with your inner voice. Speak with grace.
4. Romanticize the Everyday
Light a candle at dinner. Wear pretty pajamas. Sip your wine slowly while Sade plays in the background.
Life becomes beautiful when we allow it to be. If you’re struggling to see the beauty in the mundane, I’ve written a short guide to help you rediscover it.
These steps are simple and accessible. You don’t need to wait until you’re rich, settled, or in a relationship to begin.
Soft living starts when you honor your energy, speak gently, and find beauty in what already exists around you.
