We’ve been sold a version of self-care that looks like white robes, pristine spaces, and expensive facials. Pinterest is full of sleek minimalism and “clean girl” routines that, while beautiful, don’t always feel real.
But there’s a softer, slower kind of care. One that doesn’t require money, perfection, or even a plan.
Bohemian self-care is less about aesthetics and more about intention. It’s rooted in feeling—what your soul needs, not just what looks good on camera. It’s about feeding your senses, creating rituals that ground you, and turning everyday life into something that feels like poetry. You don’t need a resort to feel restored. Sometimes, all you need is sunlight and silence.
At the start of spring, I lingered a little longer than usual on my morning walk—just watching the squirrels and birds take their first steps and flights. That’s when it hit me: I hadn’t truly sat with my thoughts in so long. I’d been so focused on surviving that I forgot to live. In that moment, I chose to slow down, live with intention, and romanticize my life—to live it in full color again.
Reconnect With Mother Nature
Grounding is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to reconnect with the Earth. Let your bare feet touch the grass. Find a quiet patch of nature and just stand still. Breathe. Let yourself feel her energy without distraction.
If you live in an apartment or don’t have access to green space, you can still touch the earth through your houseplants. Let your fingers dig into the soil—it’s not quite the same, but it still has grounding benefits.
Outdoor Journaling or Sketching
You’ve heard me say it before: Mother Nature heals. Spending time outside helps release stress, reset your energy, and bring clarity to the mind.
Take your journal or sketchbook with you. Even if it’s just doodles or a few scattered thoughts, the act of being creative outdoors helps balance your energy and open your chakras. And if you’re not up for that, simply sitting in the sun for a few minutes can feel like a reset.
Curate a Sacred Space
Create a self-love altar or a shelf filled with little tokens that honor who you are. Celebrate your wins. Tend to yourself with intention. Even the act of building this space is an act of self-love.
If altars aren’t your thing, that’s okay. Light some incense or a candle, diffuse essential oils, and play a soft, comforting playlist. Rest. Be with yourself fully.
Movement as Medicine
We often associate movement with structured workouts, but it doesn’t have to be that. Bohemian self-care honors intuitive movement: a morning walk, a slow stretch, or dancing barefoot in your kitchen.
Movement is anything that brings you back into your body. It keeps your joints happy, your energy flowing, and your spirit awake. We weren’t made to be still all day—so move like your body is sacred.
Creative Nourishment
Nourishment isn’t just about food—it’s about feeding the parts of you that long to create. We often feel pressure to create for something, but sometimes the best creations are the ones that serve no purpose beyond joy.
Make a collage on Pinterest. Learn how to embroider. Paint without worrying if it’s “good.” If crafts aren’t your thing, express yourself through clothing or makeup just because you can. Let it be fun. Let it be free. Let it be yours.
Digital Detox Evenings
Stepping away from screens in the evening can do wonders for your nervous system. Instead of scrolling, journal, write a letter, pull a tarot card, or read something tactile like a magazine or poetry book.
Play music. Make tea. Let the quiet reintroduce you to yourself. I did a two-day digital detox recently (you can read about it [here]) and felt like my whole aura reset.
Self-care isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not about how it looks—it’s about how it makes you feel. If you feel recharged, loved, and refreshed, then you’re doing it right.
Romanticizing your life is one of the simplest ways to practice self-care. When you begin to see your life as art, even the mundane becomes beautiful. Make it yours. Romanticism—like self-care—is personal. So tailor it to you.
