There’s something so peaceful about finally parking your car at home and looking up, knowing you don’t have any plans for the night—or the next day. That’s exactly how I felt this week. It drained me—from relationship issues to work stress and daily challenges. All I wanted was to relax tonight.
Walking up the stairs felt like climbing a stairway to heaven, leading me to bliss. When I opened the door, my little puppy spun in circles, thrilled that I was home. I dropped my bag and gave him a big hug, ready to start my evening.
The first thing I did was walk my pup. It’s not just to let him relieve himself; it’s my time to decompress from the day. Strolling under the sunset, just as the stars polish themselves to shine through the night, reminded me that the world isn’t all about me. It’s vast, and I’m simply grateful to be a part of it, even in a small way. The road was quiet, one of the more peaceful spots in the city, with only the occasional car passing by. Once we finished our lap around the complex, I headed inside, removed my shoes, and wiped my pup’s feet.
Changing into my kaftan was next. Though usually reserved for beachwear, it’s become a staple in my house. Its comfort signals that the workday is over. I heated up a quick dinner, prepped my dog’s food, and curled up on the couch with a glass of Merlot to enjoy my meal. There’s something so soothing about eating out of a bowl in comfy clothes while watching TV. After a crazy week, it was time for my comfort YouTuber to provide some laughs.
Once dinner was done, I cleaned up, turned off the lights, and lit some candles. I’m very much a low-light person. My favorite candles are the tapered ones I buy in bulk on Amazon., but when I’m in the mood for fragrance, I love vanilla or sandalwood scents. My puppy and I played and cuddled until he was tired. Then, I changed into something more fitted for my yoga session—typically a pair of shorts and a sports bra, though it depends on the day.
As I began my yoga practice, I thanked my body for all it had done today. After 30 minutes of yoga, I followed with a quick five-minute meditation to quiet my mind and set it on autopilot. Then it was time for my skincare routine. I used to rely on coconut oil for makeup removal, but my skin didn’t agree, so I switched to Micellar water—a much gentler option.. I hopped in the shower, listening to a short inspirational word from the Buddhist Bootcamp podcast. While in the shower, I cleansed my face, then my body, and finished with a gentle brown sugar scrub that hydrates my skin.
After showering, I moisturized with a combination of body oil and vanilla-scented lotion. My skin tends to dry out at night, so using both keeps it hydrated and soft. I slipped on my nightgown and a silky robe—I love romanticizing my sleep—and said goodnight to my puppy. Grabbing a glass of water, I headed to bed.
This routine not only helps me unwind but also fills me with gratitude for all I have and for the blessings yet to come. If you’re inspired to create your own evening ritual, I hope it brings you the same sense of peace and joy.
Until next time,
Kimberly Rae
